Week 14/20: Back in the Game?

The question mark is important.

Two weeks ago, the knee revolted. Last week was a cautious test drive. This week, for the first time in about 15 days, running started feeling like running again.

Which is precisely when a runner becomes dangerous.

One good run and the brain immediately announces:

“Recovery complete. Resume stupidity.”

Fortunately, the knee has recently developed veto powers.

Tuesday was 10.2 km of Zone 2 at 5:55/km. It felt good.

Wednesday: another 10.9 km, slower and easier.

Thursday: 9 km in Zone 1, HR averaging just 111.

Friday: rest.

Three consecutive running days. No threshold. No attempts to recover the kilometres missed. No “thoda pace check karte hain.”

This itself may represent personal growth.

Saturday: 19:17 + 19:17

Then came the week’s experiment.

6.1 km @ 5:19/km
4 km @ 4:49/km — 19:17
Short reset
4 km @ 4:49/km — 19:17

The two faster blocks were exactly identical.

That doesn’t happen very often in my running. Usually the first interval is run by an optimist and the last one by the person who has to deal with his decisions.

This time, HR stayed controlled, cadence stayed stable and the second block didn’t fall apart.

More importantly, the knee didn’t send an immediate legal notice.

For the first time since the flare-up, it felt less like rehab with occasional running and more like running with ongoing rehab.

Small distinction. Big difference.

Sunday: Do Absolutely Nothing Impressive

After Saturday, the temptation was to go for a recovery run.

Instead: 3.5 km walk.

Because apparently I’ve now reached an age where walking instead of running counts as maturity.

Runalyze records 54.9 km for the week, although that includes warm-ups, walks and assorted negotiations with the knee. The number matters less than the sequence:

Z2 → Easy Z2 → Z1 → Rest → Quality → Walk.

The November races are back on the horizon.

Beyond them sits the February FM.

But after the last few weeks, I’m not declaring victory.

Week 12: Chassis in the workshop.Week 13: Test drive.Week 14: Back in the Game?

The engine says YES.

The knee says:

“Terms and conditions apply.” 😄🏃‍♂️
